Question for those of you who use mounting boards...have you ever found one that wasn't white? Apparently you can get self-adhesive mounting boards that come in black. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a place (in Canada) that sells them. I can order from a weird sketchy place online but would prefer not to do that.
I'm working on the Super Metroid Samus face and I've stitched it on black aida and I'm trying to avoid stitching all the black areas in black because that would murder my eyes but the white kind of shows through the holes when pressed up against the white board. I'm not entirely sure what to do.
Most art shops will carry a variety of colours of mat boards. In the States Michaels, Hobby Lobby and most photo shops carry them. Over here in Ireland, I often find them in stationary stores.
I wouldn't bother with self-adhesive, in fact I'd avoid it. You have no way of knowing how the glue on the adhesive will affect the fabric/stitching or wear/tear/fade over time, and if you just get normal mat board and lace your project over it you'll probably be better off if you want it to last.
Thanks Eliste. I know I can get different colour mat boards from just about anywhere.
I am specifically looking for self-adhesive. I have never had a problem with them in the past - I have projects that I matted over a decade ago and there isn't even so much as discolouration. With my lack of kids, I'm not exactly intending on passing my projects down through the ages so the long term aspect isn't much of a problem for me. I'll do some more digging though.
