I'm almost 15, and I'm a male. I don't know when i started cross stitching, but my friends liked it so I kept doing it. By the way, Are there any other guys on here besides me? I love Paper Mario 1 and 2, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Megaman and Final Fantasy.

The founder is male.
At on stage it was kinda 50/50 but I think of late there has been a massive onslaught of females.

34 year old male from the uk here.
I took up stitching to help my concentration but needed to find make geeky/gaming patterns cos most of the charts/kits you get in the shops were very feminine.

And...geeky/gaming patterns are masculine?

I do too! My best friend shows an interest in it but I don't think he's ready for stitching....yet.starrley wrote:I love that guys cross stitch.

Absolutely! Whenever I tell people that I cross stitch for a hobby I see this "What, are you 80?" expression cross their face, but then I tell them what I stitch and they're usually really interested.blackmageheart wrote:But that's why I'm here! Geek/gaming stitching is the way forward.

Re: How old is everyone?
On the topic of being male and cross-stitching, I think my oddest experience was on the plane (for me, a great time to get stitching done is when traveling to conferences) when a stewardess noticed me working on a piece and asked "Is that a cross-stitch?" with a hint of disbelief in her voice. Then she proceeded to bring all the other stewardesses over (one by one - it took ages), as to confirm that she wasn't seeing things or going crazy. One of the other stewardesses was skeptical at first and demanded to see the back of my stitching - fortunately I had just learnt about tucking the thread by then so it didn't look too bad. She grudgingly admitted as much :-)
I do still get some raised eyebrows from crafty shop owners when I come in asking after a big list of DMC flosses or sheets of Aida cloth.

That is odd!
I don't know why people have such a problem with it, to be honest. I think it's great
