Re: Most hated part of Cross Stitching
i've just started out and i've found that i actually suck at counted cross stitch XD my first pokemon pattern i counted Bulbasaur 2 stitches early so now it's butt is right in the charmanders face. and i've just tried 3 separate Mario Mushrooms. The first i counted 8 instead of 10 across the bottom, the second i counted 9, and the third i counted 11. i'm just not having a good start at all!

Re: Most hated part of Cross Stitching
I can, sure! The last one went to a friend, and I can see if she can take photos for me. I used it on a large spot of solid colour about half way through and could totally tell the difference. It's just smoother, flatter and more 'filled in.' For now, I tide thee over with: THISjadely wrote:Menolly-- would you care to post a pic of railroading? I would love to see one!

Practice will fix this, if you don't go crazy like I almost did at first.LilliumRyn wrote:i've just started out and i've found that i actually suck at counted cross stitch XD my first pokemon pattern i counted Bulbasaur 2 stitches early so now it's butt is right in the charmanders face. and i've just tried 3 separate Mario Mushrooms. Re: Most hated part of Cross Stitching
Maybe you can try stitching 'guide lines.' I use fine, nylon fishing line. They have it in what looks like a light blue. Then I run a series of LLLLOOONNNNGGGG basting stitches through every fifth line or every tenth depending on what I want to do. I have a 22 count pink fabric I'm working with right now, sewing Pokemon for a friend, and would be lost without the guidelines. Than you just gently pull free the nylon. After my first project I ran it over some beeswax first, and it tugs out SUPER easy. You just need to remember to tug STRAIGHT out and not up at all. If you tug UP and out then you can distort your stitchees. You can also get a heat or moisture fadeable pen and draw on lines. I've done that as well on larger count projects.LilliumRyn wrote:i've just started out and i've found that i actually suck at counted cross stitch XD my first pokemon pattern i counted Bulbasaur 2 stitches early so now it's butt is right in the charmanders face. and i've just tried 3 separate Mario Mushrooms. And the thought of bulbasaur's butt in charmander's face has now made me want to a do a HORRIBLE project that, if I do it and post it, will CERTAINLY get me banned from this forum...........

That sounds like an awesome plan!Menolly07 wrote: Maybe you can try stitching 'guide lines.' I use fine, nylon fishing line. They have it in what looks like a light blue. Re: Most hated part of Cross Stitching
French knots are the bane of my existence. For some reason it takes me forEVER to do just one, and I end up messing up and poking myself a billion times. Working with black canvas is murder on my eyes as well. Other than that, really repetitive stuff, like the blocks I'm doing as the border on the Nintendo Sampler. Oh well. It's worth it in the end.

Re: Most hated part of Cross Stitching
My most hated part of cross-stitch? When people pick up one of your in-progress pieces and start working on it.
...No? No one else has had that happen? Oh, it's just my dumb coworker. ><

I only know one other person who would know how to pick up my pieces and work on them. Everyone else is just like: *stares* "what is that?" XDRAWRmonster wrote:My most hated part of cross-stitch? When people pick up one of your in-progress pieces and start working on it.
