Tablet case/cover ideas

Post by peas_and_love »

Hiya, my sister and me are getting my mum a tablet for Christmas and I was thinking of making a case/cover for it. I've just been given my first sewing machine for my birthday (so excited!!) but I have no idea what to do or what kind of thing to make. She's not really a game person but I know you guys always have awesome ideas so has anyone ever made one before? Maybe some kind of pocket to keep it in? It's not going to be leaving the house so no worries about being dropped on concrete or anything!

Any and all help appreciated as I have no idea where to start!

Thanks :D

I used to think I'd love to make a cover for my ipad. But now? Now I wouldn't trade the non-handmade one I have if my life depended on it.

The thing is, the covers that you get that are made by the industry are able to create ones that will allow you to tilt your tablet while reading it. This is invaluable. I don't know how you'd manage to do similar without it being inferior in strength and durability. Being able to do that makes my tablet infinitely more usable when I'm out and about.

That's not to say you couldn't do something to a case though. I've considered painting mine or creating a cover for it. But I'm looking at covering the case, not the tablet. I know there are a variety of case patterns out there, but I have yet to see any sewing patterns for tablets that I like. I'm really picky though, so you might find one you think is ok. I just can't get over the functionality of the one I have and I dislike the sewing industry's incessant use of bits that cut across the tablet corner to keep it situated.

My grandmother made a little carry-case for my grandpa's iPad. He still has the store-bought thing that can prop it up, but the one my grandma made has a strap that makes it easier to transport. Maybe that's the sort of thing you're looking at?

Are you wanting to make something to store it in while she's not using it?

Exactly. Just something she can keep it in so she knows where it is and also makes it a little more obvious so she won't sit on it! Thanks for the ideas :D
