Those people are most likely incorrect. Unless there were specific terms given before you bought the fabric, then you can do anything you want with it. There may be some eyebrows raised if you're using it to sell stuff, but unless there are terms attached prior to sale, you're probably ok. Check the biases. Sometimes they say "for personal use only."

Two small points...

1. I dont sell patterns to avoid risk, but. .

2.its simply a money issue for companies. They arent going to use their lawyers to go after someone making 500 a year selling patterns when itll cost them 5k in lawyer billing.

Basically don't be very succesful and your fine.
