I've recently taken on a huge project, one that I expect to complete in several years' time. I've decided that, for my wedding dress, I want to have a skirt made almost entirely of lace. But not just any lace. I want it to be handmade, by me.
I know. I'm insane.
So I started this project. I'm making it with bobbins, and I'm finding it generally entertaining (and a little frustrating at times!).
The thread I'm using is single strands of DMC embroidery thread, and let's just say that trying to separate long strands is far more work than I'm interested in doing. Does anyone know the thread size of each particular strand so I could just get a thing of that? I do mean something like crochet thread. I already have a couple things of the super thin crochet thread, but one's decidedly too thick and the other is an off-white color.
Thanks for your time!

Sorry I can't help. Just wanted to say good luck on that, I'm sure it'll look beautiful when it's done

Re: Odd Crafting Question
I would guess that you'd be better off skipping the floss and going for the DMC Perle line of threads. I used #5 and #8 for a Hardanger Lacey thing and whichever is the smaller of those would probably work well. There is no separating involved in these threads.

Re: Odd Crafting Question
I've always been curious about making lace by hand, but have never tried it. It is certainly a plan for the future though. I have watched people make lace and all I can say is that you are a brave, brave woman for attempting this. Possibly crazy beyond reach, but very brave! Best of luck, I'd love to see a picture when it all comes together!
