I try to never snack WHILE stitching. Like others, I'm paranoid about stains/oils getting on the fabric.
This does mean that when I'm trying to lose weight I tend to do a lot more crafting though- as keeping my hands busy with stuff I don't want to get food/oils on means I eat less.

Whatever I decide to snack on, I try to eat straight out of the bag to avoid icky fingers and crumbs down the shirt! Chips, chocolate, whatever!
