Storing Projects?

Post by Kareesh »

Okay, so I just had an idea the other day and I wanted to share it with ya'll and see if there were any suggestions on how I would do this, or if you had any other suggestions.

So, here's my issue: we live in a fairly small 2 bedroom apartment with barely any storage space. Currently, all my projects and fabric and books are stored in a cardboard box while my thread is stored in a separate bag all organized and pretty. This box is over flowing and sitting in a corner of our living room. My husband hate is there, but I hated having it in the top of the closet where he put it. I'm short and if I wanted to dig through it, I had to get the step ladder and drag the box down and dig through it, trying to find what I was looking for. So annoying.

Anyways, the overflowing box is kind of an eyesore, so I had a brilliant (at least I think so) idea. I was thinking that I could get a very large tote that can use hanging file folders. Put the file folders in the tote and then I can organize my projects and supplies as I see fit. My question was if anyone knew of a large enough tote that maybe could be used for that purpose. That or if anyone had any suggestions as to how I could store them without taking up much space.

Any and all help would be appreciated! Me and my husband thank you. :nod

Honestly, all my thread resides in a shoebox and all my fabrics, projects and yarn are kept in a plastic roller box! Not quite overflowing, but there's no room for much else either! I've been thinking about getting something like a small filing cabinet as I have heaps of projects in various stages of completion that really need to be kept clean! Or even one of those shoe organisers that you hang in your closet would be good if you don't have a whole heap of space.

We don't have much space either, and I don't think anything exists that could possibly hold all of my crafting supplies altogether except a closet- which we don't have spare. I have fabric in two giant boxes- one a kid's style chest, the other a big black box we got from IKEA. Then whatever project I'm actually working on goes in a pretty box that can sit around close to us and look pretty. I find I don't really need to store stuff I'm not working on in any particular order.

I'm not sure that files will be big enough unless you're only working small projects. For example, my boxes were too small for the blanket I was doing which ended up living in a nice shopping bag.

If you're looking for a tote to fit something, why not consider making one? It'll probably be easier to fit one to the files than to buy one and try to fit stuff in it.

This! I have tons of stuff...but since my brother, sister and daughter live with me, I can only really store things in my bedroom (which I share with my daughter so space is very limited) so I have things in boxes, bags and drawers. I keep the things I'm working on in a fabric magazine rack, everything else gets sorted into the places I mentioned above. :D

Very much this! If you can't buy it, make it. And at least then you know it will be the size you want :D
