Urgent question on color bleeding!

Post by Xerideth »

Hi all

I recently received my huge order of waste cloth and am starting work on clothing! My first project is for a friend's newborn on both a white bib and white onesie.

Now my question is- are standard DMC threads safe to use for stitching on white fabric which will be washed, or will the colors bleed?

If anyone has experience please let me know, I'd hate to spend hours on a project only to end up with a tie-die mess after a quick wash. :cray:

In my experience, the colors don't bleed, but your best bet is to hand wash in a very mild soap.

I'm with starrley, never had DMC colours bleed in my experience either!

If you are worried, you can also try hand washing the thread before you stitch with it.

^_^ But, I honestly don't think it will be a problem. I've stitched with lots of red DMC thread on white fabric and havent had it bleed.

Even in the washinging machine, the trick is always use cold water. I have also never had thread bleed, but I have never risked it with warm or hot water either.

My boyfriend's mother warned me about the DMC floss #666 that it bleeds sometimes. However she told me before I wash my finished cross stitch to take the thread and wet them and put them between paper towels to see if they would bleed. I didn't have a problem though when I washed mine in cold water with mild soap!
