Maybe a specific system theme, or a game theme? (if system theme, one could only represent a game from that system, if a game theme one could only represent a character or situation from that particular series, for example, mario) Or maybe something you wouldn't expect to see or would never see in the canon of a game? (basically something that wasn't meant to happen)

Maybe glitches or easter eggs? Might be hard to execute though. Or perhaps a moment of glory, like getting a special power or weapon?

Re: Theme for Aug/Sep challenge?
I'm not sure that the glitch one would be too hard...I've had an idea for a glitch for years to stitch and never started it...
But I'm not sure that it would be good back to back with the current challenge. I do have a couple of ideas though...
First, I was debating on doing a finishing move as my cheat or secret for this month and decided I didn't think it fit the theme well enough. (and therefore didn't do one, but I'm totally in for the next one!) Could we do a contest with a genre theme? Stitch something from a fighting game or something from a puzzle game or something of that nature...?
Also, I like the idea of limiting it to one console or system. How about taking it one further and using something obscure? I'm thinking like a Virtual Boy themed contest or a 3DO themed contest or what have you.
Another idea on that same wavelength would be to limit it by some feature of the system. For example, stitch something related to an 8-bit game or stitch something pre-Nintendo or stitch something related to a game that uses stars as money or a power-up...there's lots of ideas related to something like that.

I like the idea of Stars as a theme. Lots of scope for interpretationAmanda wrote:... something related to a game that uses stars as money or a power-up...

I'm not saying you guys aren't right about a lot of games having stars...but can you name some? The only game I know of with collecting stars is Mario lol. Enlighten me!

Re: Theme for Aug/Sep challenge?
The first game (after Mario) that I think of is Ristar for the Genesis. Kirby even had the word 'star' in a few titles (including Kirby's Star Stacker and Kirby's Super Star). Depending on how variable you could be...the Starmen in Earthbound, Star Fox, StarCraft, Star Ocean, StarTropics, Starship Titanic (I know, now I'm getting rediculous). I want to say that the Tiny Toon game used stars as currency. You could even earn stars in Punch Out!
Besides that, just Mario and stars gets you tons of stuff. I don't want to give away all the ideas I might have in case this gets picked as the topic, but I can say that I could think of many very cool projects just using Super Mario RPG...although Super Mario Galaxy would be a natural one too.

Haha Star Tropics. Fun game. How could I not remember Kirby? My mind is lazy lately apparently.
