MARCH Challenge - Minimalism!

Post by blackmageheart »

This month-long challenge is all about minimalism. Wikipedia descibes this as:
Wikipedia wrote:Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is set out to expose the essence or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms, features or concepts. Minimalism is any design or style in which the simplest and fewest elements are used to create the maximum effect.
So, what I would like to see from people this month are creative, simple designs that represent the essence of your subject, whether that's a game or a character from a game. Examples off the top of my Hat would be Peach's brooch on a pink background, or red triangles on a white background for White Mage.
Use colours and shapes and don't be afraid to experiment with ideas and techniques!
Have fun!

All crafts welcome, as ever. Challenge ends on March 31st. Feel free to ask questions and if anyone needs help with stuff, I'm available as usual!

Well now, this'll be challenging. Could take me a month to find something for this (never done anything like this before), but I'll certainly try because it could be very interesting.

Actually, I have done minimalism kinda, at least partly, with my Castlevania 3 cross-stitch, Dracula's castle is minimalized to being just an outline. And with my two most recent ones, Megaman's helmet and Ninja Gaiden, both of those could very easily be lessened on colors and details and still be very recognizable. Okay, this shouldn't be too hard, well, except for finding a subject.

This will be a nice break from beading my 8 inch wire weeping willow tree. (complexity is NOT my forte) And I am SO excited to be doing a minimalist one! Shall I go obscure or recognizable?

Both! Obscurely recognisable! A recognisable game but an obscure reference that only die hard fans would recognise!

Can the minimalism be something already existing in-game, or should we try to take something in a game and minimalize it ourselves?

Hmm...I have an idea - it's something I've been wanting to stitch for some time - now I have a reason to do it!

Hrm...would symbols from a game be considered minimalist?
