Re: JAN/FEB Challenge - Portraits!
Hey Claw, I did a pdf of the last one from KG-chart and here's what the "finished" pic will look like according to that. I know it's not perfect but, at least, it's something to go by. The pdf is down below if you want it (as I know you usually work from paint so you may not).
Also, don't feel bad about the amount of stitches. Mine's a whopping 13k!

Love it. I'm a big fan of the Breath of Fire series and Bleu was always a favouriteKnittenkitten wrote:This is Bleu from Breath of Fire on the SNES.

Here's another WIP. All I can say is that the "fun" part (the hair) is going to take forever but it will be worth it.

Re: JAN/FEB Challenge - Portraits!
Thank you, but no need. Colors aren't an issue, I don't think. I'm just having a problem with seeing that blue mask around his eyes, and can't unsee it now that I have. Sometimes hate that I'm so critical about things, makes getting anything done in my life more trouble than it should be.MeiTow wrote:Hey Claw, I did a pdf of the last one from KG-chart and here's what the "finished" pic will look like according to that. And ran into some color issues with Strider, used #917 for his scarf, and #919 for the highlights in his hair, now these are common colors I've used before and they've worked with other colors in the past, but now somehow they seem a bit too strong, darker, more bold than the sprite's colors are supposed to be and every single darker shade of red that I have blends too much with those two colors, tried every dark red and garnet, and got myself very upset last night thinking I'm going to have to start this one all over again and lighten up the plum and copper colors by at least a tint. But now that I've rested, I think I'm going to just keep going with it, he'll be a darker Hiryu than the one on screen (so it'll be like I have my tv down very dark if the stitch were the actual sprite on screen). But see I had that same issue with the Wolf Queen boss from Kick Master as well, done stitched and took apart one of the wolf's heads several times before sticking with a choice of colors that while much darker than the sprite itself still turned out beautifully. So going to try to finish up my Strider one by early tomorrow morning, even though darker it should still look good. Will update then hopefully with a nicely finished piece, and not me banging my head like this.

Ah. Well...there's always the option of just taking the shading out in places you don't like it.

Re: JAN/FEB Challenge - Portraits!
I've finished the dashing Professor Layton himself, but still need to add a frame. I'll post the finished product once I'm done. In the meantime.....I've already started a pattern for my second entry. It's going to be more complicated than I'm used to but I can't wait to stitch it up! My hint about this portrait is that it is of a male character dressed in drag......I think it's going to be a blast!

Re: JAN/FEB Challenge - Portraits!
All my worrying and frustration for nothing--well, its never for nothing, always good reason...because I want myself to be completely satisfied with my own work (I like to make things difficult for myself I swear)--because I just finished stitching Strider Hiryu's hair and it looks great.
Got 2-3 more hours to go until this piece is completed, will wait until then before posting new pics since I'm so close to the end of it.

Re: JAN/FEB Challenge - Portraits!
Done!!

Framed:

It took almost 15 and a half hours to complete. Not bad. I was pretty much dead on with my guess on my timeframe for this one. Turned out handsomely. My only minor complaint, my measurements were off vertically so he's not as centered as I wanted him to be, but there's plenty of excess that can be folded or cut away when I am ready for permanent framing. Real happy with how he turned out, so no more pulling my hair out, or threatening to pull his out for giving me so much trouble near the end.
