i dont mind the term holiday, im atheist yet still celebrate typical christian holidays. im not trying to be all PC over here, I have no problem being offensive...just leaving it open for what people want to do.

as far as making a list, I dont care to...I'd probably forget something or not know about something someone celebrates.

basically I'd think to define the theme as "anything you celebrate during the months of nov, dec, jan".

any holiday, any crafts, any games, nice and open...

I dont feel the need to define it more than that, I like to leave them open to interpretation so that people have a wide variety of projects to work on and they don't feel fenced in to doing a project they wont enjoy.

Ok, just let us know what the official challenge is asap!! I have an awesome idea if we do the holiday based theme, but need the skills of a photoshop person (probably on another forum) to create my masterpiece. I want to try to do my first original piece and don't want someone working on the pattern until it is official. :D

If we were a movie based group instead of a video game group...I'd totally stitch this:

(Actually, I just like having an excuse to post that movie in a forum...)

Wow, O my! I wasn't expecting such PC over this, but I suppose that is what happens when politics and religion come together (speaking from experience, LOL). I too am atheist but I do like brightening up the winter weeks with some fun and excitement (beats the boring cold any day).AND its a great crafting excuse!! Cards, wrapping paper, decorations!! Fantastic.

When I think of happy holidays I think of my holidays (vacation it is called in the US). Like going camping or caravaning or something. Anyway, I love that everyone is into this and when your piece is made it can then be used for that occasion and I'm all for practical things to display at Christmas and everything. :good:

I had an idea for this and was going to get started, gung ho...I was going to jump right in and do the NiGHTs that I posted on another page...and I still might do that.

I'm between it and one other thing now though.

This is a harder challenge than you would initially think.

Some video games have holidays in the game that western audiences believe are made up but actually relate to an Asian holiday. For example, in Harvest Moon when they float the lights along the water, that is something that most Japanese celebrate as their "Memorial Day" and that falls in September (hence why it is in the Fall month of the game).

So keeping away from the PC for all of this we have many, many more holidays than you all have mentioned thus far.

I have a fantastic idea! I am getting the design worked up right now and will get started on Monday. I will probably wait until the submissions to tell everyone what I am making. It will also be something I can display in my house for Christmas.

Believe or not, Japan celebrate Christmas as well. There is one "monster" from Pokemon called Delibird, which look like Santa Claus.

I am thinking of small stitch work because of timewise.

Yeah but their Christmas is pretty different than our Western Christmas. Only approx. 1% of Japanese would call themselves Christians so they look at it more as a fun distraction. Most workers do not get it off as a holiday.

Japanese children do leave Chicken McNuggets (yes, only McDonald's nuggets are "Christmas-y") for Santa Claus and they have "Kentucky" (our KFC...they don't spell the whole name out in Katakana so it just gets shortened) for Christmas dinner.

From what my host family told me when I was there, this is totally true too!

No wonder, they created Delibird for Pokemon...
