Poll: Which fictional place would you rather live in?
Live in forever, live in for a while, whatever floats your boat.
You can be a main character or yourself. Here's another fun poll that will hopefully provide a fair amount of escapism... You get three votes. As always, feel free to comment! (To make it simpler, I'll use the name of the game/book/movie/character instead of the actual land name. Example: Zelda instead of Hyrule. Most people know Hyrule, but some other land/world/universe names are more obscure. Also, there are a lot more fictional places than I could possibly list here! I'm so sorry if I left out your favorite.)

I went with Pokemon, Star Trek (of course) and Middle Earth. I can totally see myself as an elf in Rivendell.

There are just so many choices! Hard to choose. How about "anywhere but here?"

This. This all day long xDDYurtle wrote:There are just so many choices! Hard to choose. How about "anywhere but here?"
The thing is, it's like a different day, a different dream world to live in.
Now there's an idea....world hopping. How long until we're able to get that technology? xD

Re: Poll: Which fictional place would you rather live in?
For me, I picked Middle Earth (LOTR), Potterverse, and Ghibli.
Potterverse is totally at the top of my fantasy world list. I LOVE <3 LOVE!!!!! me some Harry Potter! It is my favorite series honestly. My son and I both own wands, that I made from real twigs. I have seen the ones that are pinned on pintrest done with chopsticks, and they are cool but it's more satisfying to have made my own with a real twig. I shaped them with files etc to be the way I wanted. Neither of them actually is the wood I choose to pretend they are nor do they have the magical cores but we pretend they do and that's what matters... The Potterverse is and will always be my first choice in fantasy worlds. I would want to be a shop keeper of some form of magical shop. Here are pics of the wands I made for us about 2 years ago.
My Son's
Mine
In Middle Earth, as much as I love the elves, I don't think I would want to be one because they are immortal unless they give it up like Arwen did for Frodo, and as cool as immortality might sound initially, it does get lonely after a while when you have to watch all the friends you've made perish around you. So maybe a Hobbit wife or a lady in waiting for Arwen (who isn't elven).
For Ghibli it would be Howl's Moving Castle. I don't know if I'd want to be Sophie, because I HATE HATE HATE cleaning and she seemed to love it.

I picked Warcraft, Pokemon, and Middle Earth.
Warcraft because oooh, I love WoW and the world they have made is just exquisite.
Pokemon because I totes want a fire-breathing cat.
Middle Earth because it was the inspiration for many of the other worlds that I'd love to live in.
I'd love to pick more worlds, and limiting it to three was hard! The Whoverse, the Potterverse, and the worlds of many an anime also call to me :3

I went with Discworld, Dinotopia and the Pokemon universes. There were heaps more that I would love to visit, as long as I was a hero type character and not just a run of the mill person. Close second included the Avatar (TLA/LoK) universe and Narnia.

Dinotopia. When I was young, the first book grabbed me and didn't let go. The art was incredible, truly amazing stuff compared to the majority of children's books at the time. I was fascinated by the big-scene environments even more than the amazing dinosaurs. And a world where everyone lived side by side, carnivores and herbivores alike, using technology in harmony with their surroundings rather than exploiting the environment for short-term benefit - it really was a utiopian vision.
Avatar. As messed up as the world of Avatar is, I'm willing to live there just for the chance of bending.
I'd be happy as a non-bender, mind. Their world's not perfect, but it's much less sexist, racist, and environmentally damaged than our own. What I wouldn't give to have a hut on Whale Tail Island, or to ride in a sandbender sled across the desert, or to lie on some black sand beach at the end of the Fire Nation atoll, watching the elephant koi sparkle in the sun. At least you can drink the water in most places without worrying about heavy metal contamination.
other tabletop (please comment)(RMDC, I'm lookin at you) Golly, what an invitation!
Those who read my blog on occasion know that my partner and I have invested a lot into our D&D derivative setting, the Folly. Pretty much everything I said about the Avatarverse applies to the Folly as well, including the black sand beaches. But for non-D&D, I'd have to go with the funky Sailor Moon / King Arthur crossover RP my partner and I ran a few years ago. It technically takes place on Terra, of course, but it was a decidedly cooler version of 5th-century Cornwall and Wales than the real one, to be sure. Wiseman as a villainous Merlyn, Beryl as a sympathetic Mab / Morgan, and no Arther - him having been replaced by the PC, who bore Saturn's mantle. All the Senshi and the * made appearances as knights, notably Rei as Sir Kay, for whom Saturn served as squire. I did more research for that RP than for almost anything else in my life. I busted my butt to make sure I had not just accurate references in the game, but the spirit of the earliest legends available as well. I learned just about everything I could possibly learn without reading the Triads in the original archaic Welsh. Now my partner is planning a trip to visit Aberystwyth University in Wales, the school providing her distance learning course that she'll start in the spring. I can't help but wonder if the game had anything to do with that decision.

Potterverse, but only if I can be a witch.
Pokemon, because it would be really cool to have a pet that could understand you that well.
And Pern, because - duh, dragons!
(Apparently I like to alliterate...)

Re: Poll: Which fictional place would you rather live in?
So many of these worlds I just dismissed right away because indoor plumbing is a must for anywhere I'd want to live. That and modern health care, birth control, and a general lack of war/monsters.
I chose Star Trek because in that world people have gotten their crap together and are pretty peaceful. Also, food replicators and transporters are a huge plus. Potterverse would be great as long as it was post Voldemort and I get to be a witch. I also chose Discworld even though it's not modern. It's a relatively peaceful world and, in the later books, they're making great technological strides. I'm pretty sure mobile phones are just around the corner for them.
I can't resist the silliness of that world.
