Mis-Printed Pokemon Cards?

Post by KittensConsole »

Recently I had purchased alot of pokemon cards, one of which was the White Kyurem Theme deck boundaries crossed. After opening the deck and looking through the cards, I found that half of them on the backs were very normal, but the other half, were discolored ( as shown on the left in the photo ). The pokeball is yellow and not red, and the blues are lighter and brighter. Other than this little issue, the cards are completely fine.

Has anyone else come across such a mis-print? I don't expect them to be worth much or anything, just really puzzled as I have never ran into this, and upon many searches I haven't found anyone else who has  . I even submitted a question on the pokemon website, and given them the upc on the package, along with a photo for proof. Still waiting on an answer from them as well.

So anyone have their take on this subject?

I've seen it happen in card games before. Rarely is it so big a difference, but there have been issues with colourings before. Typically, the cards are perfectly legal to play in games, although you'll need to use card protectors so its not obvious. I've also seen times where misprints have become worth something due to the rarity of them, so who knows. (There's a card in Netrunner where one small print run has the mis-spelling "ssubroutines" on it, and those ones now go for more on ebay than the ones with normal spelling. People are weird.) I don't know anything about the Pokemon game, but in some they use different card backs for different types of decks. Make sure its not just that its a different card type.

If it bothers you, though, then you should definitely see if the Pokemon guys will refund.

I have checked which cards have these backs and which do not, this isn't a case that it's a different card type or anything at all. They are really just random cards that have an odd backing, and I have duplicates of these cards that are completely normal. It's simply a weird little misprint and was curious as to whether or not someone else at least has seen this. It doesn't so much bother me, as I just want an answer, and I do not think they will refund as I do not have the receipt to prove purchase, but I wasn't necessarily expecting a refund so no problem :) Thanks for your input though, I appreciate it :D

I used to have loads of cards and I'm sure I had some like this. I thought it was probably down to it being the end of the print run or something.
