Stash
Hi All, my name's Laura, and I have a problem. Stash. I stash crafting stuff. I've just bought 8 balls of a beautiful red yarn because it was on sale and I found a gorgeous jumper to make from it. Having looked at the knitting pattern, I'm now wondering if it's a bit beyond my abilities... which means the yarn will end up in the stash, along with the last lot of yarn I bought with the intention of making a jumper (which was attempted and didn't work out). The stash also has 3 cross stitch kits that I keep meaning to start... after finishing one of the 3 current cross stitch WIPs. Oh, and about a million other balls of yarn that were bought cheap online (stupid eBay). And don't ask about the fabric...
Anyone else out there have a similar problem?

Re: Stash
Short Answer: Yes.
I haven't really taken stock of my stash lately because I'm scared to, but there are at least 4 boxes, 1 chest, and two shelves in my household dedicated to crafting "stuff" that have never materialized into actuality.

I have a small problem with crafting supplies, but the real winner is my mom. You know how most teens move out to university and then come home at from christmas break to find their rooms just as they left them...well i went home for thanksgiving (which in october is canada) and my room had been gutted and filled with material and stuffing and mountains of scrapbooking stuff. 10 years later, she has spread to most of the basement and her double master bedroom size crafting room.
so you are not alone, i tend to horde video games just because they are on sale - at present, i have about 250 games that i haven't even started, plus the 200 or so that i have finished and the 120 that are in progress.

Re: Stash
I also have problems with stash...I inherited it from my mom! We call it "Craft Storage"
My problem is that for some reason, my stash comes along with "guilt about money spent on stash"...crazy, I know, but true!

Re: Stash
I have this stash problem too. I have a big box, a basket, and some "hidden" boxes with material and other craft supplies in it. My family teases me every time I say I'm going to start something else due to my "Crafting ADD". Sometimes in the middle of a project, I'll find another that I'm so excited to start, that I start it and set aside the first. I have a few WIPs, some ready to start crafts, and a LOT of extras waiting to find the right pattern. The struggle is real guys.

Re: Stash
P...problem? NO OF COURSE NOT! I don't hoard craft supplies like there's a world shortage of craft supplies! And I didn't just buy a ton of new stuff, either!

Re: Stash
I used to hoard all sorts of little bits for customizing paper models. I've mostly broken that habit, but I can't see a pen or mechanical pencil without thinking about how it could be chopped up and turned into about a dozen little guns for paper mechs or battleships. I weep inside when I recycle paperboard boxes because they're perfect for making braces to reinforce paper houses or Pokemon.
I also used to buy lots of stuff for cross stitching. Then I told myself I'd turn it into a collection project. I'd allow myself to buy a few skeins of DMC a week, and when I'd collected the entire core line, I'd put a cap on it. Since I finished, I've been very good about not buying new stuff except for specific projects, and I've been mostly reasonable about how many specific projects I can tolerate on standby.

Re: Stash
I'm part of a knitting group and we have this conversation all the time! We're also pretty bad at enabling each other which is an entirely different issue! I am currently on a yarn boycott. I'm not allowed to buy any more yarn until October, when my group goes to a fleece festival. I may or may not have broken this pact by buying "souvenir" yarn when I went on vacation this month. But surely souvenir yarn doesn't count?!
3 cross-stitch kits is not a stash.
I have at least 10 kits. Then probably another 10 rolls of aida for when I make my own projects and then all the colours of DMC.
And then we come to my paper crafting which is the biggest of my stash. Imagine a nursery-sized room. Now imagine it with desks, drawers, shelving on all of the 4 walls completely filled to the brim with paper, adhesive, accessories, and everything else in the world. It's madness, I tell you!! It's doesn't help that I'm a demonstrator for a rubber stamp/paper crafting company!! And with that, I get a discount!
