Encoragement
I am in desperate need of encouragement. I am new around here! Hi! My name is Ashleigh I am 21 and from the US. I am a programming major and I recently (as of last night) have decided to a)learn how to use rpg maker vx ace thanks tothis so I can b) make my own game and enter the 2014 Indie Game Maker Constest. I am currently taking a HUGE learning curve with the software
I was wondering if you guys would provide me with some inspiration or some "Hey you can do it!" sort of things through June! Once I finish and get all the bugs worked out I will be more than happy to share my game with everybody free of charge!

You will definitely get support and encouragement from me and probably everyone else as well! If you need help with anything you have only to post a question - we all have lots of different skills and talents. And if you just need a cheering squad, we can do that too.
Do you have a plan for your game? I took a game design short course a while back and found that making the proper plans in the beginning helped a lot later in the development of the games.
Also, if you can (not sure how secretive you need to be), would you tell us a bit about what your game will be like?

I have yet to even make a plan! haha I do have my sprite for my main character designed and it's going to be an RPG and from the music I like it will probably be something dark and sinister almost. Something somber is probably a better word.

Well, I love any kind of rpg (or will, at least, give it a shot) so I am in your camp! I like the little sprite, so going 8/16-bit with it? You should definitely take some time and figure out your story. As a writer this is a crucial part of developing anything story-driven. Otherwise, you might find yourself halfway through and nowhere to go. At least have some major plot points that move your story forward in some way so you have direction when it comes time to fill in the gaps.
Good luck to you and I will be interested to see what you do with this!

Well here, you might find this useful: This is the "template" for the design documents we used in my course. Not only do you need a plan for your story (including events etc and also the narrative structure) but you also need to work out how it will function as a game (and even more basic, as a piece of software). Let me know if you need some assistance with this!anarchyash3 wrote:I have yet to even make a plan!

Thank you so much BMH!!! I am so excited right now! Last night I sat down and thought. I want to do something that stands out so I am doing a combat less rpg! I have yet to figure out exactly how I am doing it but I plan to only have ONE character! She has woken up in her town and has to figure out what happened to it. I am so very very very excited!

Re: Encoragement
Thanks for all the support guys! I am hoping to have the bulk of it done by the end of next week at the latest! I am incredibly pleased with myself. I know it won't be perfect and I know it won't be epic but I don't think it will be bad for my very first game.
