The original Legend of Zelda made me so mad I rage quit it and have never looked back so I'm going to say Mario.

Can't beat a guy who can pull off tights without looking girly and has a magic sword! Admittedly, it's more about the sword.

Link has both 8 bit smiley and a head smiley

Overall I would say Link, but 8-bit? Then Mario.
