I used to have software that would crash randomly (I don't even remember what it was anymore... clearly i've blocked it from my memory.) I lost countless hours of work due to it. After about the third fit of rage, I adapted to saving early and often... and I still do. If I was typing this in Word, I would have already saved by now. Probably not the worst habit one could have, haha.

I'm also in the habbit of saving insanely often. I don't see it as a problem as its not a distraction, but I have found that when I work on paper now I keep thinking I have to save it every time I get up and walk away...

Reminds me of when I was young something happened to the disc my mom saved her thesis for her masters on. She took it to the I.T. guys & luckily they saved it but she lost all her formatting including footnotes. She must have cried when I wasn't looking.

Being the Comp Sci in my Dorm at Uni, whom was known to be up at 3am doing something unimportant like working on assignments, the amount of times I had people crying on my door cradling a 3.5" floppy in their hands, saying "My assignment is due tomorrow and it doesn't read anymore, I was just working on it on my computer an hour ago...", to which I berate them for not saving it to their C: drive, and do my best to pull out as much data as I can. But like stitchingmama says, it was always sans formatting and footnotes. Which made them both very happy ( they had 95% of it back and didn't need to do it all over again ) and cry even more. I hope this isn't a problem anymore with the advent of usb drives.

Digital obsolescence - totally FML material.

Being a librarian-in-training I warn everyone that you usually cannot open files made 10 years ago with modern machines... If you didn't print it, or update the files within a year or two of each upgrade, it's likely gone.

I know it's kind of dumb, and I know these people are everywhere, especially on the internet, but I am really getting tired of people posting pictures of their raging alcoholic parties, or mentioning drugs in some way or another as being cool. It's dumb. I recently was on Myanimelist, and I was reading a thread I thought about posting on, but every other post was about how they watched a certain anime when high or drunk.... and I'm just like, "UGH. Why do that to yourself, and the anime you're watching?"
I guess I'm just not 'hip'. I never got the point of destroying my brain cells, and missing parts of my life, and/or throwing my guts up = /

You are not alone! I don't get any of it either. I don't see how it it's fun or worthwhile. I want to live until I am old and be able to remember my life.

Yeah, I've always been pretty straight-edge, too. It really burns me how people play high-school politics all through their twenties and thirties with regards to alcohol and partying - if you don't go bar-hopping, you're a square.

I never really considered myself to be 'straight-edge' but I suppose by the definition I am. I too was branded a 'nerd' or some other variation of the term (now I'm a nanna since my time that could potentially be spent getting drunk is usually spent sewing or crocheting!) since I just didn't see the appeal of getting drunk or using drugs. I still often get the short end of the stick when I won't go bar-hopping with friends. It's still something that just doesn't interest me in the slightest.
