Is that one of the stand alone books by Feist or is it part of one of the series?MeiTow wrote:I read 'Faerie Tale' by Feist last year. It was recommended to me because of my love of folklore and fairy tales and it was excellent! I felt like it was a little bit slow but still creepy and engaging. Highly recommend it be one of the Feist books you read.

It's a stand alone as far as I know.Shazbang wrote:Is that one of the stand alone books by Feist or is it part of one of the series?MeiTow wrote:I read 'Faerie Tale' by Feist last year. Ally-> As for kindles...I don't have an actual kindle (I use the android app on my phone and have a Sony reader) but I actually like the app because I can take it to bed, set the print to be white on a black background and not bother my sleeping hubby. That is one thing I hate about my Sony e-reader is that it has no backlight, bottomlight, whateverlight so I can't read it in bed (where I do most of my reading). I have been thinking about getting a Kindle paperwhite for the light feature and since we have Amazon Prime I can rent books for free for it as well. Currently I watch the freebies area of the kindle e-books like a hawk to get good deals on books that *sound* like they'd be good to read so I don't spend a bunch of money on books I'm not going to like...for instance, The Chronicles of Mars that I'm reading for class right now would have cost me $7.99 as a kindle e-book and there is no way I am paying $8 for a book I have no idea if I'm going to like...for a digital book, even, that I can't sell to a used book-store or return if I buy it. LOL! I found a hard copy at Half-Price Bookstore for 99 cents! Course, now I have to have the light on in the bedroom but hubby can deal with it for a week while I'm reading it.

Re: So...What Are You Reading Now?
I have a Kindle, and love it. I'm a fast reader, and my friends/family would laugh at the number of books I'd take on holiday, and then be shocked when I'd finish them. The kindle means I have lots more space in my suitcase and I can shop carefree, knowing that I'll have space for things. It's usually in my handbag as it doesn't take up much space and means that I can read in any odd free moments. The only downside is that mine isn't backlit so I keep the bf awake if I'm reading at night. I still love real books though, but the Kindle means I have fewer books, which means more space for crafty bits!

Re: So...What Are You Reading Now?
I actually finished The Chronicles of Mars on time! *claps* I haven't finished a book for this class on time since week 2's Alice in Wonderland books! I wasn't able to find a cheap copy of this week's book (week 10 Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula Le Guin) so I am skipping this week's assignment and, instead, have started week 11's reading, Little Brother by Cory Doctorow, and I am liking it quite a bit so far. I'm only a couple of chapters in but the writing style is very...talky, I guess. It feels like the book is just a person relating this story to me and after weeks of antiquated writing styles, I'm kind of happy for that! This book is the last for the class so I'll be able to get back to reading what I want. I have a lot of weird crap I've found for free on Amazon that's interesting me from paranormal romance books to detective stories, to alternative fairy tales lol; not to mention I spent $50 on actual books right before this class started that I would like to read (The Game of Thrones books, the first Outlander book, two of the Dragon Tattoo books, a paranormal ghost book written by GHI's Barry Fitzgerald, and the two volumes of the Nightworld series I was missing).

Re: So...What Are You Reading Now?
https://www.coursera.org/course/fantasysf <--this is the class. It's a free online MOOC (Massive Open Online Course). Basically just something that's keeping me learning. I hadn't read any of the books that were assigned (except the Edgar Allen Poe stuff) so I took it to get me reading more and force me to read stuff I hadn't read before.Ally wrote:What sort of course are you doing MeiTow? Here is an index for a bunch of MOOC classes if anyone is interested. They have all sorts of subjects!

Re: So...What Are You Reading Now?
Dracula is worth it, it's painfully to start but quite good once you get into it.
I personally think that absolutely everyone in the world should read Frankenstein once in her life - none of the movies will ever do/have done the book justice and it's an amazing story!
(I might have to reread it again!!)
I'm halfway through book 4 (Storm of Crows) of the Game of Thrones...yee
Has anyone else read it?

Re: So...What Are You Reading Now?
I haven't read Game of Thrones yet, but it's in my queue. I am hoping the box under my tree right now is the first four books...
I am going to be starting on The Great Santini in a couple days (or whenever I finish my current book) and was wondering if anyone else has read it.

Re: So...What Are You Reading Now?
Really cause I'm 40% of the way through it and have no desire to go back and finish reading it. I feel like if a book can't catch me before I'm halfway through with it then I might as well stop wasting my time. LOL!papercutzombie wrote:Dracula is worth it, it's painfully to start but quite good once you get into it.
I have read the first GoT books. I bought the other four right before my class started so I haven't been able to pick them back up yet. I hope to get them read in the coming year.
