Venting Thread, or FML!

BMH- Thank you. Yeah it's been refreshing to vent and not be looked down on or told you need medication. I love you all for that. I'm currently replacing all of my beta readers save one since she had a valid medical reason not to have gotten back with me on the project. She's also a fellow crafter whom I've talked into joining the forum. I'd be happy to take anyone here on as a beta reader but must warn everyone I don't censor my work normally. It can range from dark horror to extreme adult situations. I understand this may not be everyone's cup of tea but extend the offer to take on members as readers just prefer to warn and make sure ppl are adults to avoid having angry parents sending me hate mail. Anyone interested please pm me. Everyone have a wonderful day.

i was able to get it back. it was a quick fix, thankfully. only took 5 minutes. didn't even have to take it home .

Thank you. I'm glad you were able to fix the year. I recall putting the wrong middle initial on a gift for a friend and being mortified when they pointed it out. We're human it happens but it still stings our creative muses.

Anyway, off my soapbox, here's my FML: Our power went out yesterday and was out for 27 hours. Our power has gone out 3 different times in the last 2 months for over 24 hours each time AND we have lost all our food every single time. We live in the desert where the temperature hit over 100 each time as well. Also, I have a 4 month old who is running a fever on top of that -_- AND a flash flood destroyed a bunch of stuff here...

Here's my FML/Vent:

So my husband and I are celebrating our 3 year anniversary, which is the "leather" year. So I thought I would make him a nice braided leather choker necklace with a shell on it from where we honeymooned at (I picked up a lot of shells from the beaches as we don't have any here in Iowa). Yet, as we're in seperate rooms working on our presents, I'm realizing that the leather I bought is too big and bulky for this and isn't turning out well at all. I really wanted to make something special for him, and now it looks like something a Girl Scout would make in her first year. We're leaving town tomorrow, so I don't have time to go out and get more (as everything is closed at 1:30 in the morning).

Remy I'm sorry you have to deal with that from your family. Luckily my mom and I are extremely close. But only because my grandma is horrible to my mom. My Grandma left when my mom was 8 and my moms dad left after my grandma did so my mom was raised by my great-grandparents. My Gma is horrible to my mom. She treats her like crap. My gma told my mom when she was 8 that the reason she was leaving was because of her and because my Gpa loved my mom more than her. (hope that makes sense) My gma has told my mom since she was a child that she was the ugliest baby she had ever seen, and she( my gma) used to cry b/c she had teh ugliest baby. A couple of weeks ago when i was back in Cedar Rapids for my birthday and to help my mom pack b/c she moved to Des Moines where i live. My gma, mom, and i went out to dinner and my mom did something dorky and i just said Jeez mom your a dork, Just jokingly my mom and i are extremely close, My grandma said on 3 different occasions in a 10 min time frame "Well I didn't raise her so you can't blame me." my mom almost started crying there at the table that my gma said that. My gma has turned everyone in my family against her. I'm the oldest of the 3 grandchildren and i invited my gma to my graduation ceremony in 2009 and she told me no i don't want to be there. My cousin didn't even invite her to the ceremony and my youngest cousin won't invite her.
Sorry bout the rant about my gma. It just makes me so mad that she treats all of us like Crap. Especially my mom b/c my mom is one of the best people I know and she doesnt' deserve that.

rockinwithrammstein- I sincerely hope everything turns out alright for you and that your little one is fine.

kareesh- It sounds like a lovely idea for a present. Hopefully you're able to salvage it or give him a delayed present coupon. I was working on a bday dragonball cross stitch for my husband while he was sleeping. Sometimes it's great to have insomnia. Of course he woke up while I was working on it when I was 1/2 done. It spoiled the surprise but oh well he still likes it.

berry999- I feel for you about your grandmother. The only one I was close to was my dad's and she passed when I was 10. The other one I have doesn't count me as her grandchild because I'm not a guy. She's a wicked idiot harpy and unfortunately there are several in the world. Don't let it break you and try not to let it make you jaded. I've been married to a wonderful man who is my very best friend for going on 2 years now and I'm slowly coming to terms with my in laws being very kind and loving. I'm not used to that. I'm used to expecting the worst but it's not a life I'd recommend. One day your gma will look around and realize she's alone because of her hateful self and you and your mom will be surrounded by loved ones. The end result must be worth the journey. Forgive me insomnia is making me ramble and letting my mind wander off into dark waters without much of a candle. Smile and give your mom a hug for me. We are strong and not a 'weaker sex'.

berry999, this might sound a bit harsh but I think you should ignore your Gma completely. I too had to suffer a poisonous old hag of a grandmother (my father's mother). Just because you're related does not mean you have to like her or endure the venom she spews. Hug your mom and tell her that she's a star for living through what she did and doing a waaaaay better job of child raising! Gma can go back to her swamp cottage and rot!

BMH- I'm glad I made you laugh but sorry you spilled your drink. I'm glad it wasn't coffee like mine was when I laughed about you quoting me.
