OK. So I found myself in-between books, series, authors, genres, with nothing I was really excited about in my back log. So I started perusing some steam punk titles that I thought looked interesting if I found myself in a position to want to try something in that genre.
I ended up with "The Bookman Histories."
About 10% of the way through, and... meh.
I guess since I like fantasy, and sci-fi, as well as historical thrillers, like "The Angel of Darkness" by Caleb Carr, I thought I'd have a natural ability to pick out something I'd like. Not so much.

Re: So...What Are You Reading Now?
I just finished a book called "love in lowercase" and it was ok. It was an easy read and had an ok ending, which is why it was just ok. I have a few other books that I got from the library, but I haven't really started reading them. Well, I started one called "The Painter's Daughter", but I couldn't get into it. So it'll be onto the next one.

Re: So...What Are You Reading Now?
Currently reading To Kill A Mockingbird because I have never read it before. I'm really, really picky about "Classics". I tend to find them rather boring but I am trying to keep an open mind and go through them a little at a time to revisit or visit for the first time and try and expand my library. I say slowly because I've been playing my 3DS at night more than I've been reading. I'd be done with it by now if that weren't the case. It's pretty decent so far. I'm 30% of the way through it and I haven't put it down yet so that's a plus!

Some classics I love, and some I abhor. When I was in school required reading was pretty hit or miss.
And a lot of the great classical writers spent so much time and energy in details, back stories, and character development of minor roles, often the hardest part is muddling through the verbiage to get to the plot.
With that said, more than not, I like Alexander Dumas (who may have invented the modern adventure thriller), and Charles Dickens.

The only classic I've actually enjoyed was Watership Down by Richard Adams. My eyes just glazed over the rest I tried.

Watership Down is my absolute favorite book. And I wouldn't even have known about it if I hadn't of fallen in love with the cartoon as a child. LOL!blackberrybear wrote:The only classic I've actually enjoyed was Watership Down by Richard Adams. My eyes just glazed over the rest I tried.

Re: So...What Are You Reading Now?
Add me to the Watership Down fan club! My poor paperback copy is pretty ragged, I've read it 15 or so times before finally finding a nice hardback copy. Have the sequel too, not as great, but still nice to have.
I adored the movie so much as a kid. Not... really appropriate for kids, but I loved it.

I finally had to stop reading "The Bookman Histories". Rubbish.
I picked up "The Revenant", mainly because the movie got great reviews, Leo won an Oscar, and everyone I know who saw it said it was slow and drawn out... but the book is only 250 pages! So it sounds like a great read.

Re: So...What Are You Reading Now?
I would love to read Watership Down. The Chronicles of Prydian are on my to read list too, might ask for these for my birthday.
I've been struggling to read recently, can't focus. I just need a push I think...and a good book... Bit like stitching sometimes, I have so much to do but I struggle to even pick it up. But when I do, I am away, I am back into it like the struggle was never there. It's the same with books.
It might be because the last book I read wasn't great, I struggled to understand it and keep with it as it bounced all over the place, back and forth and not getting very far any time soon.
